On April 29, 2025, the Athens University of Economics and Business hosted a pivotal event for the energy transition: the Hydrogen Conference, focusing on the evolving European hydrogen ecosystem and Greece’s strategic role within it.
The highlight of the conference was a panel discussion moderated by Professor Phoebe Koundouri, a global authority on sustainable development and environmental economics. Representing institutions such as the World Council of Environmental and Resource Economists and the SDSN Global Climate Hub, Prof. Koundouri brought a strong interdisciplinary lens to the conversation.

The panel featured a distinguished lineup of hydrogen experts and industry leaders:
- Spyros Economou, Director General at Eunice Hydrogen Technologies, offered insights into the industrial rollout of hydrogen solutions in Greece.
- Prof. Dogan Keles of DTU’s Energy Economics and Modeling Section shared advanced perspectives on energy systems modeling across Europe.
- Prof. Sofoklis Makridis from the University of Patras discussed research innovations and academic-industry collaboration.
- Dr. Anastasia-Maria Moschovi, Head of Research & Innovation at Monolithos, emphasized the importance of R&D in driving hydrogen adoption.
- Vincent Pirot, Sales Manager for the Middle East at Anglo Belgian Corporation, joined online to provide a commercial and international view of hydrogen technology deployment.
Together, the panel examined the technical, regulatory, and economic challenges of scaling hydrogen technologies, with particular focus on the role Greece can play as a regional hub in Southeast Europe.
At ALMA, we recognize the importance of such dialogues in shaping coherent and impactful hydrogen strategies. Events like these are key to forging the cross-sector collaboration necessary for accelerating the green transition. As we continue to support public and private stakeholders across Europe and the Mediterranean, we applaud initiatives that combine policy, innovation, and action—exactly what this conference exemplified.
